Who is entitled to Italian citizenship?

How long does it take to obtain Italian citizenship?

Is it mandatory to live in Italy to get citizenship?
Not necessarily. Citizenship can also be obtained through a judicial action in the Italian courts.
Do I need to speak Italian to start the process?
For recognition by direct descent (jure sanguinis), knowledge of Italian is not required. However, for naturalization by marriage, proof of B1 level proficiency in Italian is mandatory.
Which documents are required to start the process?
